The Brain Injury Association of Tennessee (BIAT) is in the process of developing a caregiver's program, "The Caregiver's Support Network".

"Caregiver's Corner" is a place where all caregivers and supporters of brain injury survivors can share their stories, ask questions of each other, find support from other caregivers who understand and can learn from each other.

A little information about myself:

I am a mother/caregiver/supporter for my son, John, and have been for 12 1/2 years. He was involved in a car accident on October 31, 1995 at the age of 13. He sustained a severe brain injury (seizures), spinal cord injury (paraplegic), and severe abdominal injuries. He also has had Type I diabetes since the age of 10.

I have a wonderful husband, Kerry, who is also our son's caregiver/supporter. We have two daughters who have been very supportive through our family's journey.
Jennifer, 24, is in the Army National Guard Military Police. Her unit is set to deploy to Iraq this November.
Stefanie, 18, just graduated from high school and is looking forward to attending college this fall.

When your loved one receives a brain injury, it affects the entire family. We did not realize right after the accident what a long journey this was going to be for all of us. The love and support we received from family and friends has been very much appreciated. I have also learned through the years that talking with other family members/caregivers/supporters of TBI survivors has given me much comfort because they understand what I was going through or have gone through. They have offered not only support and understanding, but also knowledge of how to become a better advocate for my loved one.

I'm looking forward to hearing and learning from you.

Looking forward to sharing our journeys together,

Pam

Pam Bryan, CBIS
